At the Caribbean Island Sint Martin we had to design an exension of the town Philpsburg. The town is situated on a coast in a bay and behind it is a saltlake. We were to design the infill of this lake. Instead of starting out individually we worked togheter as a team of 18 students, each one of us analysing a topic of this location. We combined and exchanged all these data and made an individual proposal for the whole lake. Then we placed all these proposals on top of eachother. From this sheet with 18 layers we started designing. A layer could mean
a housing, schools, building height, from, typology etc. Everybody chose
a little part of the lake. The site i chose was partly in the lake and had to be 3 stories high.
By placing the new structures mainly on colums the lake is still existing.
The new buildings are an umbrella for the tropical sun and let in lots
of fresh air. The level building levels have a very open structure. The
foundation is made out of bunkers giving shelter to refugees and containing
drinkwater. The final results have been shiped over to Philipsburg for an exhibition.
